Aran Islands

The Aran Islands are situated in Galway Bay, off the coast of County Galway. There are three islands to choose from Inis Oirr, Inis Meán and Inis Mór.

Inis Oirr
Inis Oirr, is the nearest to Doolin in Co. Clare, just 9.5 kms away. It is the smallest of the three islands, measuring 3 kms in length by 3 kms in width.

Inis Meán
Inis Meáin is in the middle of the three Aran Islands. It is separated from the other two islands by 1.5 kms of sea. It measures 5 kms in length by 3 kms in width.

Inis Mór
Approximately 14 kms in length and 3.8 kms in width, Inis Mór is a walker's paradise.

A visit to the Islands is an unforgetable trip and one that you cannot afford to miss. The islanders traditionally made their living from fishing. While the men were out fishing the women knitted the traditional 'Aran Ganseys' which the Clancy Brothers made high fashion in the fifties and sixties.

You can travel to Aran by ferry, directly from Galway city Dockside (90 minutes), Ros a Mhil (Rossaveal) in Connemara (35 / 40 mins), Doolin in Co. Clare (20 mins) or by air from Indreabhan (Inverin) under 10 mins.
