Lahinch and the Northwest of Co. Clare
The popular seaside resort of Lahinch is noted for its long sandy bathing beach and even more for its championship links and 18-hole golf course, only a 5 mins. walk from the house. There is also a nice strand promenade with an aquarium and swimming pool. Good restaurants, lively pubs, cafés and a variety of shops in town are open all year. The beach does not only offer exellent swimming but is the best surfing in Ireland. A variety of surf shops and surfing schools provide for the necessary skills and equipment. Other popular activities in the area include sea kayaking, diving, angling, bird watching, cycling and walking on waymarked tracks.
The majestic Cliffs of Moher are only a 10 minutes drive away and among the most magnificent stretches of cliff scenery in the country. They front the Atlantic to a height of nearly 200m and extend for a distance of 8 km from Hag's Head west of Liscannor towards Doolin. The Burren is a region with unique flora & fauna, geological curiosities and many historical remains. It can explored by car but ideally covered on foot using the old "green roads". The Burren Way is a long distance walking track starting in Lahinch and leading along the Cliffs of Moher to Doolin, Ballyvaughan and further on to the Burren National Park.
